P.E.I. Golf Association Spring Update

Well we got through another winter and its finally Master’s week! That means the P.E.I. golf season is just about to get underway. Lots to talk about so let’s get everybody up to speed.

2017 Golf Canada/P.E.I.G.A. Gold Card Membership

First order of business this year is to pick up your 2017 membership card. These cards are a “must have ” for any golfer offering a ton of benefits including:

* An official handicap and performance tracking tool

* Entry to P.E.I.G.A. sanctioned tournaments and programs

*Golf Canada magazine delivered to your home

* Golf club ID and lost club protection

* Rules of Golf and prizes for entering scores

* Golf Insurance covering damaged cars and lost equipment

And new this year a discount on Home and Auto insurance from Cooke Insurance of P.E.I.

Membership cards can be purchased on line through www.golfcanada.ca or at your home course. Some courses include a Gold Card with your membership so check with your club. Your membership supports many great programs including Golf in Schools, Future Links and Golf for the Cure to name but a few. If you love the game show it!

Cooke Insurance Amateur Championship

The 2017 Cooke Insurance Amateur Championship will be held July 14-16th at Stanhope. All players in all divisions will play 54 holes and everyone may use a golf car. The entry fee, which includes a tee gift from TaylorMade, is $200. For complete details about the Championship and to register go to www.peiga.ca . The deadline for entries is July 4th.

Atlantic Golf Championship

Once again this year 20 players will be selected through the Amateur to represent the P.E.I.G.A. at the Atlantic Golf Championship. This year’s Championship will be held at Covered Bridge in Hartland, New Brunswick in August. If a P.E.I.G.A. player wins their division at the Atlantic Championship he or she will receive a special Golf Canada exemption into next year’s national championship with financial support from the Association. Another reason to enter the Cooke Amateur!

Senior Tours

Information about the 2017 Senior Men’s and Women’s Tours including schedules is now on the website. If you are a male turning 55 this year or a female turning 50 this is the place to play. You will play many of the Island’s great courses, make a new friends and have a lot of fun in the process. Clean up the club’s and get out there!

ADL Junior Tour

Provincial Golf Coach, Sean Joyce has put together a great competitive program for juniors this year. The ADL Tour is limited to 50 juniors and it is already filling up. The registration form and other details are on the website so if there are junior golfers in your family please make them aware that now is the time to register. We don’t want them to be disappointed!

* Watch for information about P.E.I.G.A. regional girl’s camps.

* The 2017 Canada Games will be held in Winnipeg in August so let’s support our team.

* Support Golf for the Cure at your local course.

* Make a contribution to the Errol Nicholson Junior Golf Fund and receive a tax receipt. Let’s build this legacy!

* Check www.peiga.ca on a regular basis for information about amateur golf in P.E.I.

As you sit back to watch this year’s Masters think about the great golf season ahead and how anxious you are to get outside. Make a commitment to play more golf this year. You will not regret it. Just ask Tiger – what time does he tee off ?
