P.E.I.G.A. Junior Tour To Kick Off

The 2014 Holland College Junior Order of Merit Golf Tour is getting ready to start. The Tour , which is managed by the Prince Edward Island Golf Association, offers junior boys and girls an opportunity to play weekly tournaments at courses across the Island between June and August . The first event is scheduled for June 8th at  the Eagle’s Glenn golf course in Cavendish.

Through the weekly competitions juniors earn points that are used to select teams to represent P.E.I. at regional and national championships . The Tour also has it’s own season ending Championship which takes place in late August . Players invited to be part of the Association’s provincial development team are also selected through their performance on the Tour.

“ The Holland College Order of Merit Tour is a great place for junior golfers to develop their competitive skills . The season long program gives our junior players the chance to play different courses every week so they get used to different conditions “said Ron MacNeill the Association’s Executive Director.

The Tour is managed for the Prince Edward Island Golf Association by C.P.G.A. Provincial Golf Coach , Dallas Desjardins who headed up last years P.E.I. Canada Games Team.

“ Dallas does an incredible job with the juniors and our program is reaching new heights . He has a real passion for kids and they respond to his coaching . We are very excited about the future of golf in the province and expect to see Island juniors performing well wherever their golf takes them “ said MacNeill.
