P.E.I. Golf Association Releases 2017 Schedule

The P.E.I. Golf Association has a busy 2017 season planned with tournaments and programs running from May through October. The provincial governing body of golf has released its tournament schedule which includes tournaments scheduled to date at member courses. These tournaments are open to P.E.I.G.A. Gold Card members.

” The Association has a very busy season planned with our tournaments, junior development program and senior men’s and women’s tours ” said P.E.I.G.A. Executive Director Ron MacNeill.

Highlights of the season include the Cooke Insurance Amateur Championship in July at Stanhope, the 2016 Canada Games in August in Winnipeg and the Atlantic Golf Championship later in August. The Experience Hyundai Senior Men’s and the Excel Accounting Senior Women’s Tours get underway in May.

” The Association is very excited about the upcoming golf season. It’s especially exciting when the Canada Games are on the schedule. Provincial Golf Coach, Sean Joyce has been working very hard with our juniors and we are optimistic about our team’s performance in Winnipeg” said MacNeill.

The 2017 tournament schedule includes many different formats for both competitive and recreational golfers. Several team events are on the calendar such as the Early Bird in May at Brudenell and the Iron Man at Clyde River in October.

Encouraging more girls to take up golf is a priority of the Association. Last year it introduced girl’s camps which turned out to be very popular and more camps are planned for this year.

To participate in any of the Association’s tournaments or programs golfers must have a Golf Canada/P.E.I.G.A. Gold Membership Card which are available at local member courses. A number of courses include Gold Cards with the purchase of a club membership.

” The 2017 Gold Cards offer tremendous benefits for golfers including lost club protection, golf insurance, score and performance tracking, golf rewards, prizes and many others ” said MacNeill. ” A new benefit, specifically geared for P.E.I. Gold Card members, is a discount on home and auto insurance through our new partner Cooke Insurance “added MacNeill.

In addition to Cooke Insurance other sponsors have partnered with the Golf Association to grow golf in P.E.I. including TaylorMade-Adidas Golf, Experience Hyundai, Excel Accounting and ADL of Summerside who support the Association’s junior development program.

Golf Association Plans Busy Fall

PEIGALogo

The Prince Edward Island Golf Association is gearing up for a busy fall with a number pf programs and tournaments on the schedule says P.E.I.G.A. Executive Director, Ron MacNeill.

” Next week the Association is hosting the Atlantic Golf Championship at Fox Meadow. The 54 hole Atlantic Championship brings together the best men, women and senior golfers in the four Atlantic provinces to compete in both team and individual competition” said MacNeill.

The P.E.I. Association has 20 players competing in six divisions. If a P.E.I. player wins his or her division the P.E.I.G.A. provides them with an all expense paid trip to their respective 2017 Canadian national championship.

In September the Experience Hyundai Senior Men’s and Excel Accounting Senior Women’s tours resume play. “These tours are very popular and provide a great way for senior golfers to remain competitive ” said MacNeill.

2017 is a Canada Games year and throughout the fall and winter the P.E.I.G.A. Junior Development team will continue training under the direction of Provincial Golf Coach, Sean Joyce.

” As we move into fall Island golfers are still competing for Player of the Year honors through designated tournaments. Our top male, female, junior and senior golfers will be recognized by the Association at the end of the season ” said MacNeill.

” We have had a very busy year with a successful Amateur Championship at Dundarave and the Atlantic Junior Championship at Countryview. The ADL Junior Tour is experiencing a great season and most recently the Association organized a girl’s golf camp in partnership with the Belvedere Golf Club”said MacNeill.

“I think that 2016 may well be the Association most successful year ever. It has certainly been our busiest ” said MacNeill.
