2014 Spring Newsletter

 

This Thursday in Augusta, Georgia players will tee off in the “ Masters” – the official start of the golf season for winter weary Canadians . Have faith there is green grass under all of that snow so lets get ready for a great 2014 golf season ! Here are some things that you might think about as you sit back (with Tiger) to watch this years Masters .

 

Junior Golf

Our Provincial Golf Coach, Dallas Desjardins, has put together another great season for juniors of all ages and skill levels . In addition to visiting local schools he will be offering clinics throughout the season via the C.N. Future Links program. For competitive juniors the application for the Holland College Order of Merit Tour is now available on the Associations new website . If your in Summerside check out the Association’s new High Performance Development Center which has been helping about 20 juniors all winter .

 

King of Clubs

Cliff Goodwin has another exciting year of competitive golf planned for senior men . The first tournament gets underway on May 12th at Anderson Creek with the last scheduled for Countryview on October 6th . The King of Clubs Tour is a great way to keep your skills sharp while making new friends . Growing old isn’t so bad .

 

Senior Ladies Tour

The new and growing Tour for senior ladies is ready to kick off another great season. This year 9 events are scheduled with the first at Avondale on May 12th . Check the website for the complete schedule. The ladies have a lot of fun and a lot of wine . Oh well !

 

Provincial Championship

The 2014 P.E.I.G.A. Provincial Amateur Championship is scheduled for July 5th and 6th at Summerside . Starting this year the Amateur will be used to select the 20 players who will represent P.E.I. at the new Atlantic Championship at Bell Bay August 15th -17th. The following are the Divisions for the new format:

 

Men (under 40)

Women (under 40)

Mid-Master Men (40-54)

Mid-Master Women (40- 49)

Senior (55+) and Super Senior (70+) Men

Senior (50+) and Super Senior (65+) Women

 

Golfest

This June 29th- July 6th  a new event is being held at the Ashburn Golf Course in Halifax. Two tournaments make up Golfest – a Canada versus the World match featuring Mike Weir , Matt Kuchar , Graham Delaet and others . The latter half of the week is a full field Web.Com tournament with Adam Hadwin and others hoping to graduate to the P.G.A. Tour in 2015. The P.E.I.G.A. has (2) week long passes for Golfest that it is giving away. In order to qualify all you have to do is get your 2014 P.E.I.G.A./Golf Canada at your course and register it on-line. A winner will be chosen from those registered as of June 15th. Good luck!

Volunteers

Ever thought that you would like to know the Rules of Golf better ? Ever wondered how golf courses are rated ? The P.E.I.G.A. through its affiliation with Golf Canada offers courses in both Rules and Course Rating. These courses are  set up to allow you to progress at your own pace. They are fun and if you are passionate about golf can open up a whole new world . If your interested in looking into these programs or want to get involved as a volunteer with the Association please get in touch with us.

 

AGM

The Annual General Meeting of the Association is scheduled for 10:00 am , Saturday May 17th at Sport P.E.I. , 40 Enman Crescent . All are welcome .

 

Website

As noted the Association has just launched a new website . If your looking for information about programs and services , want to post your score or want to know who is leading the Avondale Open check out the website www.peiga.ca .
