2009 King of Club Tour Spring Letter

Dear Island Senior Golfer,

Here we go again with the 10th season of the King of Clubs Senior Men’s Golf Tour.  We have a full calendar of twelve events this spring and fall.  There are five events with golf/cart packages and shotgun starts.  There is one more shotgun start which is at Summerside, an easier course to get around.  We will start the season at Countryview again on Monday May 11th and end the schedule at Anderson’s Creek for the Tour Finale on Monday October 5th.  The variety of courses should provide a challenge for everyone.

We will continue this year with our King of Clubs Ranking for Seniors (55 – 64 years) and Super Seniors (65 years +).  We initiated these divisions last year.  These two divisions split the field in half and we avoided the problem of players changing division from week to week because of their handicap.  The top ranking players in each Division will be awarded King of Clubs gift certificates at the Finale.  The PEIGA Senior Player Ranking will also be computed.  These rankings determine the top 16 Seniors and the top 8 Super Seniors to play in the PEIGA Abegweit Match Play at Avondale on September 26 – 27.

Points for the PEIGA Senior Player Ranking can be earned at the PEIGA Amateur at Brudenell on July 3 – 5, the Atlantic Senior Open (Sally Basler) at Summerside August 12 – 13 and a player’s best five finishes on the King of Clubs Tour.

The final 2008 PEIGA Senior Player Ranking determined the 12-man team that will compete this year in the 6th annual Maritime Senior Challenge in Moncton, June 8th and 9th.  The members of this team are:  Grant Somers (Anderson’s Creek), Ernie Corrigan (Belvedere), Ron Garrett (Brudenell), Mel Bernard (Anderson’s Creek), Cliff Goodwin (Summerside), Alan Montgomery (Anderson’s Creek), Al Pickard (Belvedere), Mike Coady (Belvedere), Frank MacCormack (Summerside), Franklin Doyle (Belvedere), Carl Hanson (Belvedere) and Mike McCarville (Belvedere).  Alternates are: Ken Gunn (Summerside) and Peter Clark (Stanhope).

Enclosed are the entry forms for all this year’s King of Clubs Tour events.  Also on the back of this letter you will find the rules for and description of the PEIGA Senior Player Ranking and the King of Clubs Tour Rankings.  It is expected that more golfers will be interested in playing the Tour this season.  Look at the list of events and choose the ones that you wish to attend and send in your entry with your cheque before the deadline.  If there is a restriction on the number of entries the “first-come first-served” principle will apply.

As in the past it is important that fees accompany the entries.  If you must cancel there will be a full refund if it is done before the entry deadline.  If you cancel after your name appears in the draw you will forfeit the $5.00 prize money portion of your entry fee.  As well, depending on the ruling of the golf course, you might also forfeit the green fee portion.

The Tour Committee is looking forward to a great season of golf and camaraderie.  If you have any suggestions for ways to enhance the Tour, please talk to any of the organizers.
